And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation. (Romans 5:11)
What a wonderful blessing it is to be justified by the blood of Jesus Christ and to be saved from wrath through Him (Romans 5:9)!
What a blessing it is to have been an enemy of God, but to now be reconciled to God by the death of His Son and saved by His life (Romans 5:10)!
But wait! There’s more…
We also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ
Our reconciliation to God through our Lord Jesus Christ is cause for our rejoicing in God.
We don’t boast in ourselves; we don’t boast in the works of the law - we boast (or rejoice) in God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Christians don’t only rejoice in the things God has given them. They rejoice in who and what he is. It is because of what God is that we have from him the things we have. It is by Jesus that we really know God, and consequently, it is “in” Jesus that we have ground for rejoicing in God. - McGuiggan, Romans, 160-161
How wonderful are the blessings of God through Christ Jesus! How encouraging Romans 5:1-11 ought to be to the child of God!
To recap these blessings:
We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1).
We stand in God’s grace and rejoice in hope of God’s glory (Romans 5:2).
We glory in our tribulations because they produce hope (Romans 5:3-4).
We will not be disappointed in our hope because of God’s love for us (Romans 5:5).
God’s love for us is demonstrated in the death of Jesus for us (Romans 5:6-8).
We stand justified by Jesus’ blood and are saved from God’s wrath through Him (Romans 5:9).
We are reconciled to God through the death of Jesus and saved by His life (Romans 5:10).
We rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ for what He has done for us and who He is (Romans 5:11).
What a shout of praise these eleven verses are!
The Christian life is not a life fearing judgment. It’s not a life of uncertainty.
We live confident, ever-trusting lives because of what Jesus has done for us. We live a life of peace because of what God has done for us through His Son.
We “rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ!”
