Is placing church membership a scriptural teaching? I find no passage that teaches placing membership. I feel that so many congregations of the Lord's church have made this such a ritual that the denomination world views us as just another denomination. We are added to the universal church when baptized in my opinion. I do feel it is good to let the elders know that you want their oversight and guidance but as far as filling out a membership card, I do not think it is necessary especially when you attend a congregation that has no elders.
The one answer I’ve always gotten is, there’s no way for the elders to responsible for your soul if they don’t know you’re there. Even without elders, you can’t be asked to participate unless people know. Looking forward to hearing other answers from you all.
