Thank you Jameson, well done. God has been speaking to me about this topic. Most church attendees are stuck at justification, the salvation past tense. Repentance is the second step of sanctification after holy discontent for believers. Sanctification is the present tense of salvation (Gal 2:20KJV). “I am crucified with Christ......”, not “ have been” as in modern translations.

You comment triggered a few thoughts. There is a connection between justification and repentance for the Christian. We are justified by the blood Jesus (Romans 5:9), which the New Testament teaches we are cleansed by when we are baptized into Jesus Christ in penitent faith (Romans 6:3-5; Acts 2:38; Acts 22:16). For the Christian, as we continue walking the light, we continue to have fellowship with God and we continue to be cleansed by Jesus blood from all sin (1 John 1:7-9). Part of what is included to continue walking in the light is that we continue to confess our sin - which I think includes a mindset of humility and repentance.
