I think you hit the nail on the head in your article when you said, "Confess your sins. Repent. Turn away from sin and turn to God. Accept the fact that God has forgiven you. THAT’s our responsibility when it comes to dealing with our own sin."
I would say, biblically speaking, people who are struggling to "forgive themselves" are actually struggling to accept the forgiveness God offers them. Or, they are trying to find a way to forgive their own sins without Jesus - which they will never be able to do.
Exactly! I guess for people who don't want to believe in God, "forgiving yourself" is the only option, but it just doesn't work sufficiently. Only God's forgiveness truly wipes away our sin.
Thanks for this discussion of forgiveness. What are your thoughts on self-forgiveness? It's something commonly heard today: you have to forgive yourself. I noticed you didn't mention this in your article (and, in my opinion, rightly so as it's not really a concept found in the Bible). See my thoughts on the topic here: https://open.substack.com/pub/groundedinthebible/p/self-forgiveness?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=l2b9p
