After being brought up in four different mainstream protestant groups followed by turning to the evangelical born-again sinner's prayer movement, I am very familiar with the siren call of those who teach a false gospel. I never heard of the Church of Christ until I was 19. Happy day that was. After obeying the gospel, I began a journey of studying God's word diligently taking advantage of every opportunity to go to soul winning workshops, gospel meeting and church encampments. In time after sharing the gospel with as many as I could and helping to expand a jail and prison ministry started by a blind ex-con converted in a federal prison by Texas prison ministers, I had the great opportunity to become a personal evangelist for three different congregations over many years. In my experience, the greatest threat to my teaching the gospel was not the many other churches teaching falsehoods, but the false teachers within the Lord's church. Many Christian leaders and other men are ignorant of the truth and are spiritual cowards who will not take a stand against those who teach a false gospel. In fact, they often bring them into the church, especially through books and various media produced by those whom Paul said in Galatians 1:8-9

8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be [a]accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

The gospel is the power unto salvation.
