Does the bible teach Christians are to "place membership" in a congregation even when its a congregation that does not have elders? We worship there on Sundays and Wednesdays and make our contributions to this congregation but have never placed membership (if there is such a thing). If the congregation had elders I would feel it would be best to tell them we wanted their oversight.
