Jesus was in the middle of telling His disciples about the destruction of Jerusalem in Matthew 24 when He emphasized to them the importance of listening to Him.
"Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'There!' do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand.” (Matthew 24:23-25)
Some of these people would sound very convincing - they would even “show great signs and wonders.”
But Jesus said it would all be deception.
Jesus had spoken - and He urges His disciples to listen to Him and trust Him.
What about us?
Some people who teach false things from God’s Word can sound very convincing.
But what has God said? Is that person teaching what God’s Word says?
We guard against convincing sounding lies by continuing in the Word of God.
But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:14-17)
Will you listen to Jesus above everyone else?
Will you listen to God’s Word?
