Why Is There So Much Fighting in the World?
The answer is simple - but not what you may think.
Where you find fighting, arguments, and wars, you will also find arrogant pride.
By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom. (Proverbs 13:10)
The context of this verse points to someone who arrogantly rejects wise advice - instead, they stubbornly continue doing what they want to do.
The ones who lower their pride and listen to the wise advice of others will act wisely and avoid many fights, arguments, and wars.
Interestingly, Solomon wrote this - because his son Rehoboam later did exactly what Solomon warned him against doing.
Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who stood before his father Solomon while he still lived, and he said, “How do you advise me to answer these people?” And they spoke to him, saying, “If you will be a servant to these people today, and serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.” But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him. (1 Kings 12:6-8)
Rehoboam’s foolish actions resulted in most of his kingdom leaving him. Rehoboam’s pride led to much strife.
What about us?
Do we allow our pride to come between us and wisdom? Would we rather hang on to what we want, even if it causes problems?
Or are we willing to listen to wisdom?
