It’s sobering to think about what all God has done and what we have done to corrupt His created order.
God created the world (Genesis 1-2); Mankind sinned and brought pain, suffering, and death into the world as a result (Genesis 3).
God brought the children of Israel out of Egyptian slavery and established them as a nation; they rebelled against Him and eventually were conquered and went into captivity.
God gave the Israelites the Law of Mos,s, which they eventually corrupted with their traditions and teachings that originated with men (see what Jesus said in Matthew 15:1-9).
Jesus built His one church (Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 5:23); today, there are so many denominations people are confused about the church that belongs to Jesus.
What’s the answer when people turn away from God and go after their own desires?
The answer is the same as it’s always been when people turn away from God’s created order - from God’s design.
Turn back to Him.
This is basically what Jesus told the people who were rejecting Him and would soon crucify Him.
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you desolate. For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’” (Matthew 23:37-39)
Jesus says, “I wanted you to come back to Me, and I would have welcomed you - but you weren’t willing to come back.” After all they had done - and would do to Him - Jesus told them, “I wanted you to come back to Me.”
What a blessing it is that Jesus still wants us, after all we have messed up.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
