For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:7-8)
We are finally back to our study of Romans three times a week (Tuesday-Thursday)!
I’ve enjoyed taking a little break and sharing more articles with you by other writers, but I’m really looking forward to diving back into Romans.
If you want a refresher on the previous article from Romans, I’ve linked it below for you to go back and read.
God put His love on exhibit for all to see.
The death of Jesus at just the right moment for us was a demonstration of God’s great love for us.
I’m sure you’ve been to a museum before. You walked around and saw the exhibits, read the plaques, and left having a better understanding of whatever subject the museum was about.
If you could walk into a museum about God’s love for us, the primary exhibit would be the death of Jesus on the cross.
People occasionally give their life to save the life of a good person. But who is willing to die for a guilty, wicked lawbreaker? That’s a much shorter line of people.
Now think about Jesus.
He didn’t die on that cross for righteous people. He didn’t even die for “good” people. He died “for the ungodly” (Romans 5:6), “sinners” (Romans 5:8), and “enemies” (Romans 5:10).
That’s love. The innocent for the guilty. The Son for the enemy. The Righteous for the unrighteous.
In a chapter that began by reminding the justified of the peace they have with God through Jesus Christ (Romans 5:1-2), the justified are also reminded of God’s great love for them.
In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:9-10)
If you are a Christian, rejoice in the great love that God has shown for you!
If you are not a Christian, then I hope you will realize that the death of Jesus on the cross was for you too. God also demonstrated His love for you - the same as He’s done for us.
All He is asking is for you to respond to His love for you.
"Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:37-38)
