I can’t imagine what it is like to be one of the families who lost a loved one in the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
I’m sure they feel pain, anger, grief, despair, shock, or any combination of the emotions associated with grief.
As I think of those families who are hurting today - I’m reminded that there are many people who are hurting all around us.
Children growing up without a loving father and mother.
People discovering they have some dreaded disease.
A person who is burying their spouse after many years of marriage.
This list goes on and on of people who are hurting.
In the middle of teaching and healing many people, Jesus took time to consider the ones who were hurting - physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” (Matthew 9:35-38)
Jesus saw people who were hurting for one reason or another - and He knew the answer was for His disciples to get out among the hurting people and labor in His name.
To those who are hurting - Jesus offers you hope, justice, and comfort.
