The World's People and God’s People
Who will overcome?
When God’s people labor for Him, He is pleased with our efforts.
However, the people in the world may not look so favorably upon the work we are doing.
Consider the work that Nehemiah and the Jews were trying to do in rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem and notice the opposition they faced as recorded in Nehemiah 4:1-3.
Sometimes the Lord’s people are mocked because of a lack of numbers.
Just because the Lord’s people are small in number does not mean they cannot accomplish great things for the glory of God (Judges 7:1-7; 1 Samuel 17).
Just because we may be small in number does not excuse us from sowing the seed to help grow the Lord’s kingdom (Acts 8:1-4).
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)
Sometimes the Lord’s people are mocked because of how we worship.
The Lord’s people worship God based on what He has authorized in Scripture. We worship the way God has authorized His people to worship because doing something He has not authorized is changing what He desires in worship.
No one wants to be found guilty of tampering with God’s Word.
For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. (Revelation 22:18-19)
Sometimes the Lord’s people are mocked because of how easy it seems to stop our efforts.
Those who oppose God and His people ultimately never win. The Lord’s kingdom - His church - will never be destroyed.
And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. (Daniel 2:44).
Let’s not become discouraged by what the world does or says about the Lord’s church.
May we never forget Paul’s admonition to Christians.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:58).
