The Most Useless Thing in the Universe is a Christian Who Isn't Living Like Christ
Jesus said this.
Jesus described His followers as “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world.”
He also warned His followers that it is possible that we may not do what salt or light are supposed to do. If that is the case, we are of no use.
You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. "You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. (Matthew 5:13-15)
Salt that “loses its flavor” is useless. You might as well just throw it away with the trash because it will do nothing.
Light is supposed to give light - but what if the light is covered up? It’s useless.
Christians, we will be different in this world. We will stand out - there’s no way around it. A Christian who is striving to be like Jesus isn’t even going to try to cover "their light” under a basket because they realize that defeats the entire purpose.
What is the Christian’s purpose?
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9)
We live as “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world” to bring honor and glory to God. We don’t want people to see how great we are - we want people to know how great God is.
Are you letting your light shine or covering up your light in how you treat your co-workers? Are you being “the salt of the earth” on social media, or are you “without flavor” in your words?
The same could be said in every area of our lives - remember the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-10).
Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
