The Christian's Life Should Be Focused on Eternity
The Christian life here remains focused on the goal.
Christians understand the importance of their life here on this earth - and think about what lies ahead of them beyond their life now.
Non-Christians do everything possible to distract themselves from the end of this life.
This is typical of the non-Christian; there is nothing he so hates as talking about death and eternity. But the Christian, on the other hand, is a man who thinks a great deal about these things, and dwells upon them; they are great controlling principles and factors in the whole of his life and outlook. - Lloyd-Jones, Studies in the Sermon on the Mount
Christianity paints an accurate picture of life and what happens next.
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. (Hebrews 9:27-28)
We have one life to live within this window of time. There will be a day of judgment where we will all stand before Jesus Christ - the Judge - and answer for our actions.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. (2 Corinthians 5:10)
This Christian lives their life, making their aim to be pleasing to the Judge (2 Corinthians 5:9). Christians also urge others to repent of their sins before standing before the resurrected Judge of all the world.
Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead. (Acts 17:30-31)
The Christian life is a life lived in view of the fact that we will stand before Jesus Christ and be judged. It’s a life that understands there are two eternal dwelling places - and all people will live forever in one or the other (Matthew 25:46).
Are you living your life today in such a way that you are prepared to stand before the Judge and enter eternity?
