Over the past few days, we have endured frigid temperatures across most of the United States.
My hometown's temperature dropped to three degrees Fahrenheit a few days ago. The wind chill was well below zero.
While I don’t mind cold weather, that was a bit colder than what I’m used to. But we got through it, and now we are experiencing typical weather for this time of year.
Events like the one we just experienced remind me of the delicate balance in our lives. God created us to be able to endure and overcome so much. At the same time, our lives are almost terrifyingly fragile.
Sometimes we start thinking a bit too highly of ourselves and what we can overcome, and then we are snapped back to reality when we narrowly miss being in a car accident.
This life is “a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes” (James 4:14).
No matter how strong you may be, how much hard work you’ve done, and how much you’ve overcome - all of our lives are like a mist.
Here one moment, gone the next. Like the cold weather that’s here for a little while in the winter and then is blown away by the Spring winds.
So what are you doing with your brief window of time?
While the mist lingers in the early morning hours of life, how are you spending your life?
