To my kids:
Look - I get it. Telling the truth isn’t always easy. Sometimes it’s tough. Sometimes your mind will scream at you to twist the truth a little to save yourself some discomfort.
I’ve been there. I’ve experienced it - and I’ve failed to resist that urge sometimes.
But you must understand the importance of the truth in your life.
God speaks of His word as “truth” (John 17:17).
Solomon wrote, “Buy the truth, and do not sell it, Also wisdom and instruction and understanding” (Proverbs 23:23).
Truth is the foundation of your entire life. For example, part of the reason you’re listening to me (I hope) is because you believe I’m telling you the truth. We don’t like listening to people that we know are lying to us.
In a world where information is so easy to access, grounding yourself in truth is all the more critical. Many people out there are either straight-up lying to you or have no clue what they are talking about (I think most people fall into this group).
If you have the truth and know the truth, you get to live in a completely different world from everyone else.
Invest in the truth if you want to live a life with more peace, trust, and confidence. And don’t ever get rid of it, no matter what it costs you.
Until next time,
Love, Dad.
