I can say with complete confidence that no one loves you more than God does.
How do I know that?
John tells us in a familiar passage.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:16)
Jesus is the full demonstration of God’s love for you and me.
For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6-8)
God demonstrated His love for you through the death of His Son. Although we deserved death, Jesus died in our place.
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
If you were going to die, but someone stepped in and took your place - and gave you what you needed for life - how would you think of the one who gave you a new chance at life?
Because of His great love for us, Jesus has given us a new chance at life - a chance to be forgiven of our past sins.
Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:3-4)
God loves you so much He couldn’t bear the thought of you dying without a chance for eternal life with Him (2 Peter 3:9).
How will we return His love? He has sacrificed so much for us - Jesus died for us.
How hard is it to love someone who gave up so much for you - especially when you weren’t very lovable?
If we truly love Jesus, then we will submit to what He says and obey Him (John 14:15).
