Jesus Christ Holds the Universe Together by His Word
His power is demonstrated in Hebrews 1:1-4
The Bible teaches that Jesus is so powerful, He holds the entire universe together with His word.
God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. (Hebrews 1:1-4)
The book of Hebrews emphasizes that Jesus is “better'“ or superior over the angels, the law of Moses, Moses, the Jewish priesthood, and so on.
Jewish Christians were considering leaving Christ and going back to the law of Moses. The writer of Hebrews is saying, “Why would you do that? Jesus is so much better!”
He begins by reminding them of the great power of Jesus as the Son of God, and the great sacrifice of Jesus for our sins (John 3:16).
Jesus made all things (John 1:1-4), and He continues to “uphold” His creation.
Christians - remember how great the One is we serve. Our lives are so much better because of Him. He is our Creator and Sustainer.
