Is Anything Too Hard for the Lord? (Jeremiah 32:27-35)
Spiritual Questions with Scriptural Answers.
In life, we find ourselves in some very difficult situations. Life at best is hard.
While the Christian life is the best life because it is the blessed life (John 10:10; Eph. 1:3), we still have struggles. Living in this world is very challenging as we go toe to toe with temptation, trials, and storms. These challenges are physically demanding, emotionally exhausting, and can be spiritually demoralizing.
It has been said that the trials of life can shake our faith, break our faith, or make our faith stronger. How we respond to the difficulties of life makes all the difference.
Jeremiah was a man who faced several challenges as a prophet of God. He is known as the “Weeping Prophet” for the things he saw, endured, and wrote about.
In this article, we want to discuss a question that ought to give us great encouragement when we discover the answer knowing that the God of Heaven is able to help us through whatever life throws our way!
The Text.
Our text comes from Jeremiah 32:27-35 (NKJV):
“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me? Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it. And the Chaldeans who fight against this city shall come and set fire to this city and burn it, with the houses on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke Me to anger; because the children of Israel and the children of Judah have done only evil before Me from their youth. For the children of Israel have provoked Me only to anger with the work of their hands,’ says the Lord. ‘For this city has been to Me a provocation of My anger and My fury from the day that they built it, even to this day; so I will remove it from before My face because of all the evil of the children of Israel and the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke Me to anger—they, their kings, their princes, their priests, their prophets, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And they have turned to Me the back, and not the face; though I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction. But they set their abominations in the house which is called by My name, to defile it. And they built the high places of Baal which are in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to Molech, which I did not command them, nor did it come into My mind that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.”
A Reminder of God’s Power.
God prefaces His plans for Babylon to overtake Judah with a very powerful statement and rhetorical question. He states that He is the Lord and the God of all flesh. This is a great reminder of His sovereignty and power (Psa. 24:1; 66:3; 68:35; Job 24:22; Rev. 19:1). The question is presented: “Is there anything too hard for Me?”
God’s track record is flawless and His power has been displayed in many ways. Truly, He can do anything and everything He wills to do (Job 42:2). Paul exclaims, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us” (Eph. 3:20).
Notice that God is able to go above and beyond our wildest dreams! His power is limitless!
A Reminder of God’s Mercy.
In the context of Jeremiah 32, God is giving His people assurance of their punishment but also of their return home.
In His wisdom, justice, and sovereign power, He was able to rise up Babylon to punish His people for their idolatry, rebellion, and unbelief (Jer. 32:30-36). In the same passage, we read where God was also able to bring the people back home to dwell safely.
Truly, “the Most High rules in the Kingdoms of men” (Dan. 4:32).
Consider Jeremiah 32:42:
“For thus says the Lord: ‘Just as I have brought all this great calamity on this people, so I will bring on them all the good that I have promised them.”
Is anything too hard for God?
The answer: ABSOLUTELY NOT!
What a powerful, loving, merciful, long-suffering, and just God we serve! If you do not serve and live for Him, why not turn to the One Who is willing and able to aid you through life?
