I was out of town and got to see one of my instructors from when I was in preaching school.
Several graduates of the school were there, and he was glad to see us all. He even asked about some from our class who couldn’t be there.
I will always be grateful for how much my teachers invested in us as students.
As students of God’s word, we are who we are partly because of our teachers (2 Timothy 2:1-2). We don’t idolize our teachers; we must continue diligently studying God’s Word for ourselves (2 Timothy 2:15).
I think it’s unwise to be disrespectful and dismissive of our teachers and their efforts to teach us the Scriptures. Many of them have devoted decades to studying and applying the Scriptures in their own lives.
While they can be wrong - and while we might disagree with them sometimes, their thoughts on God’s Word should not be quickly dismissed.
Timothy longed to see the apostle Paul - who was someone who had taught and shown him much about living for Christ (2 Timothy 1:3-5; 3:10-15).
It was good to see someone who has invested so much into me. The efforts of my teachers motivate me to want to help my brethren grow in the same way my teachers helped me.
When you think of the people who invested so much of their time and energy in helping you grow, you are undoubtedly grateful they did. Let the efforts of those teachers from days gone by, motivate you to help others.
