To my kids:

The Compassion of Jesus.

The compassion Jesus had for other people stands out when you read the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

There is one passage about Jesus’ compassion that always comes to my mind.

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. (Matthew 9:35-36)

Jesus felt deep sympathy within Himself for these people. Certainly, He was sympathetic to their physical condition and helped them by healing them. But His compassion didn’t stop with what they experienced physically.

He was also moved with compassion because He saw their spiritual condition. Their religious leaders had betrayed them and had left them like helpless sheep without a shepherd.

Your Compassion for Others.

Do you see people as human beings created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27)? They are people just like you - they hurt as you hurt, they’ve sinned and made mistakes like you, and they need the gospel of Christ just like you.

When you see your fellow human beings created in God’s image hurting physically, are you moved with compassion for them? To be like Jesus, you should be moved into action to help them as you have the opportunity (Galatians 6:10).

Also, you should realize the need these same people have for the gospel of Christ, which can save their souls. Give the water of life to them (John 4) and break the bread of life unto them (John 6).

Until next time,

Love Dad.
