Paul wrote in Philippians 1:20-21 that he would not feel ashamed in anything.
He looked forward with boldness because whether he lived or died, whether he was free or in prison, Jesus Christ would be magnified. His focus was upon Jesus Christ, and he sought to magnify or show great, the Savior (Psalm 70:4; Acts 19:17).
Christians are to shine as lights to the world, not for their glory, but the glory of God (Matthew 5:14-16). King Herod paid a terrible price because he did not give God the glory (Acts 12:21-24).
Paul’s purpose was to magnify Christ; therefore, if he lived, his life would be for the glory of God, and if he died, he would gain the eternal reward given to those who serve Christ faithfully.
Those who are Christians have been crucified with Christ.
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Galatians 2:20)
Those crucified with Christ have been raised to walk in newness of life.
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.Â
For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. For he who has died has been freed from sin. (Romans 6:1-7)
Those who have been raised to walk in newness of life are to seek those things which are above.
If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:1-3)
Christian, let's magnify Christ by the way we live each day.
