We are all looking forward to a day of food and family!
Maybe some of you will enjoy a nap in the recliner.
Maybe some of you will sit around and watch the Detriot Lions lose to someone.
I hope we are all truly thankful for the blessings we have in our life. Here are eight things to be grateful for, not only on Thanksgiving Day but every day.
Be thankful for the food you have to eat.
And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted. (John 6:11)
And when he had said these things, he took bread and gave thanks to God in the presence of them all; and when he had broken it he began to eat. (Acts 27:35)
Being thankful for our food is a way to acknowledge God’s care and provision for us. We owe Him thanks for everything, even the food on our table.
Be thankful for the people who have made sacrifices for you.
Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their own necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles. (Romans 16:3-4)
Paul was thankful for two of his brethren who risked their lives for his sake. Maybe you’ve never had anyone risk their life for you - but are their people who have made sacrifices for you?
Family members, friends, and fellow Christians have likely sacrificed much for you. Be thankful for them.
Be thankful for the victory over death God gives you through the Lord Jesus Christ.
The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 15:56-57)
Having the hope of living forever with God is such a blessing. Eternal life is only found in Jesus Christ. Remember to be thankful for the hope you have in Christ.
If you are not a Christian, don’t you want this hope?
Be thankful for how you can serve God by spreading the knowledge of Him.
Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. (2 Corinthians 2:14)
Jesus has tasked Christians with the mission to take the Gospel into all the world (Mark 16:15).
Be thankful for the message of good news you carry to the world.
Be thankful for your brothers and sisters in Christ.
Therefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers: (Ephesians 1:15-16)
Paul was thankful for the church in Ephesus. Be sure to thank God for your brothers and sisters in Christ - for their faith and love for others.
Be thankful for the inheritance God has promised you.
giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. (Colossians 1:12)
As Christians, we are the children of God, and He has promised us an inheritance. This inheritance does not corrupt or fade with time (1 Peter 1:3-4).
Remember to thank God for the eternal inheritance He has promised you.
Be thankful for all people, especially for your rulers and those in positions of authority.
Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence. (1 Timothy 2:1-2)
Thank God for the people of this world, for all are made in His image (Genesis 1:26-27). Thank God for your rulers, whether you agree with their politics or not.
Be thankful for the Lord, Who is eternal and all-powerful.
"We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, The One who is and who was and who is to come, Because You have taken Your great power and reigned.” (Revelation 11:17)
Thank God that He is eternal and unchanging. Thank Him for His matchless power.
I didn't write a specific Thanksgiving post this year, so I shared this with my Grounded in the Bible readers who follow me on Facebook. Thanks for putting together such a great collection of verses and thoughts!
